Tax shift talk draws Dem response

Former state Budget Director Rick Chandler, a member of Governor-elect Scott Walker‘s transition team, has suggested an increase in the state sales tax, to 7.5 percent. Chandler made it clear he was speaking for himself and not the incoming administration, but Democrats in the legislature have pounced.

“Stunned and flabbergasted” says state Senator Mark Miller (PDF), the Monona Democrat who will lead Senate Democrats next session. “I was not under the impression that Governor-elect Walker was a Dane County liberal,” says Representative Tamara Grigsby (PDF) of Milwaukee.
