Fairness Doctrine gone for good

The Federal Communications Commission today announced the end of the last vestiges of the Fairness Doctrine, which for decades attempted to ensure that all coverage of controversial issues by radio and television broadcasters be balanced and fair.

The Fairness Doctrine had not been enforced for twenty years, and FCC chair Juluis Genachowski today announced “elimination of 83 outdated and obsolete media-related rules, including Fairness Doctrine regulations.”
