Remember a couple of years ago when UW Stout Chancellor Charles Sorenson received a social media beat down from students, for trying to address the issue of alcohol use on his campus?
UW Madison freshman Spencer Lindsay kicks over a similar hornets nest in a Badger Herald editorial, and if the first wave of comments are any indication, his relatively modest attempt to change the culture is not going to be well received.
Many Wisconsin residents-not just UW students-can be more than a little thin-skinned whenever the suggestion is made that there may be something out of kilter with the state’s relationship to alcohol. “It’s cultural” we’re told, and people who insist on defining it as a problem just don’t understand that. So, good luck, Mr. Lindsay. Here’s hoping you have a thick skin.
