So far as we know, the only Wisconsin politicians to have their likenesses rendered in oil portraiture have been the state’s governors. Because it would be preposterous to commission portraits of, say, the Agriculture or DNR secretary on the taxpayer dime, right?
But – and this is going to come as a shock, I know – things are a bit different in Washington, D.C., where taxpayers have been picking up the tab for oil portraits of obscure cabinet officials and secretaries of this, that and the other. Seriously.
The friend who forwarded this ABC News report to me allowed as how “it will make you weep with frustration.” That’s certainly one scenario, although cackling hysterically or pounding one’s head on the desk seem just as likely.
